Mobile Communications - Samsung Expects Strong Gains in SE Asian Handset Market

According to statements made by Samsung, the company has a sales target of nine million mobile phones in 2005 in Southeast Asia, which would mean more than 35% annual growth from the 6.5 million units sold last year.

This expected growth in sales could help Samsung expand its share of the mobile phone market in Southeast Asia from 19% in 2004 to a forecasted 24% in 2005. Samsung has a sales target of 100 million units for the worldwide mobile market in 2005. In the first quarter it shipped 24.5 million units, which amounted to a market share of 13.3%, up from 12.6% in the first quarter of 2004, according to the company.
